Alsace Aboard

This commission of 2021 is hung in the officers’ quarters of the battleship, FREMM Alsace. The painting showcases the region for which the vessel is named: Alsace, a beautiful part of France on its Eastern border. The crew of the ship knew what they wanted: a work that depicted the regions traditional architecture, rolling vineyards, forest and the long blue line of the Vosges mountains… as well as the emblematic and wondrous cathedral of the region’s capitol, Strasbourg; A challenge! This image shows the finished work being fitted with its frame (at the arsenal of Brest in Brittany) before its installation aboard the vessel at its home port of Toulon, France.
